The suzuki sv650 1998-2002 is one of the most beloved middleweight motorcycles ever produced, and fitting it with a quality performance exhaust is one of the smartest upgrades any owner can make. At Max Torque Cans, we’ve built this exhaust specifically for the SV650 in its first-generation form, delivering a product that combines precision engineering, premium materials, and a straightforward fitting process that any competent home mechanic can tackle with confidence.
Whether you’re chasing a sharper throttle response, a more aggressive exhaust note, or simply want to shed some unnecessary weight from your machine, this exhaust delivers on every front. Designed and manufactured right here in the UK, it’s built to the standards that SV650 owners deserve — and at a price that won’t leave your wallet weeping.
What’s Included with the Suzuki SV650 1998-2002 Performance Exhaust
Every kit we supply for the suzuki sv650 1998-2002 comes complete with everything you need to get the job done cleanly and professionally. There’s no hunting around for missing hardware or making do with ill-fitting components — this is a complete, ready-to-fit package.
- 1 x Stainless 304 CNC Mandrel Bent Link Pipe — precision formed for an exact OEM-matching fit to the standard downpipes
- 1 x Stainless Exhaust Strap — durable, corrosion-resistant, and built to handle the heat and vibration of everyday riding
- 1 x Exhaust Strap Rubber — provides the cushioning needed to protect the silencer and reduce unwanted resonance
The link pipe is the heart of this kit. Produced from grade 304 stainless steel and formed using CNC mandrel bending, it maintains a consistent internal bore throughout every curve and bend. This matters because a uniform bore keeps exhaust gases flowing freely without restriction, which directly translates into improved performance across the rev range. Unlike cheaper alternatives that use crush-bent pipe (which narrows the bore at each bend), our mandrel-bent pipe ensures you’re getting the maximum benefit from your upgraded can.
Fitment Details for the Suzuki SV650 1998-2002
This exhaust is engineered to fit straight onto the standard OEM downpipes of the suzuki sv650 1998-2002 without any modification. If your SV is running the original factory headers, this kit will connect cleanly and securely. There’s no cutting, welding, or fabrication required — it’s a genuine bolt-on upgrade in the truest sense of the phrase.
The suzuki sv650 1998-2002 was produced across a five-year production run, covering both the naked and fairing variants of the bike. This kit is suitable for both versions, so whether you’re running a stripped-back naked SV or the half-faired S model, you can fit this exhaust with complete confidence that it’s been designed with your specific bike in mind.
It’s worth noting that the standard downpipes on the first-generation SV650 are a well-known size and configuration, and our link pipe has been templated directly from the OEM specification. This means the connection points, angles, and dimensions are all matched precisely, giving you a rattle-free, leak-free fit from day one.
Installation Notes for Your Suzuki SV650 1998-2002 Exhaust Upgrade
Fitting this exhaust to your suzuki sv650 1998-2002 is a satisfying job that most owners with basic mechanical knowledge can complete in a couple of hours. Here are a few practical tips to help the process go smoothly:
- Allow the engine to cool completely before starting work. The standard OEM silencer and downpipe connections can be stubborn when hot, and working on a cool engine is simply safer.
- Use a quality exhaust assembly paste on all slip joints before fitting. This helps seal the connection, prevents corrosion bonding over time, and makes future removal far easier.
- Do not fully tighten any fixings until all components are loosely assembled and aligned. Starting from the downpipe connection and working back, progressively snug everything up before making final torque adjustments.
- Check alignment carefully before final tightening. The stainless strap and rubber should be correctly seated, with the silencer hanging straight and clear of any bodywork or the rear tyre.
- Run the engine briefly after fitting and re-check all connections once the exhaust has gone through a heat cycle. It’s common for joints to settle slightly, so a final check ensures everything remains tight and leak-free.
For a visual walkthrough of the fitting process, we’ve put together video content on our YouTube channel that shows the installation in real time. We strongly recommend watching this before you begin, especially if it’s your first time fitting an aftermarket exhaust. Max Torque Cans is a UK-based manufacturer and retailer with a genuine passion for motorcycles and a no-nonsense approach to quality. We don’t import generic exhausts and slap a label on them — every product we sell is engineered for a specific application, tested for fit and finish, and backed by real customer support from people who actually ride.
For the suzuki sv650 1998-2002, we know the bike inside and out. The SV650 community is passionate, vocal, and unforgiving of poor-quality parts — which is exactly why we’ve invested in producing a kit that meets the high standards these bikes and their owners deserve. The use of grade 304 stainless steel throughout means this exhaust will outlast cheaper options and continue to look sharp even after years of hard use and British weather.
The SV650 is also a popular track day weapon and club racer, and this exhaust is well suited to that use case. The improved flow characteristics of the mandrel-bent link pipe complement any other performance modifications you may have made, and the overall weight reduction versus the standard silencer is a welcome bonus whether you’re on the circuit or the road.

Frequently Asked Questions — Suzuki SV650 1998-2002 Exhaust
Will this fit both the naked SV650 and the SV650S fairing model?
Yes. This kit is compatible with both variants of the suzuki sv650 1998-2002 — the standard naked version and the half-faired S model. Both share the same OEM downpipe configuration, so the link pipe fits either bike without modification.
Do I need to remap or rejet the carburettor after fitting?
The suzuki sv650 1998-2002 uses carburettors rather than fuel injection, so a jetting adjustment is worth considering if you want to make the most of the improved exhaust flow. It isn’t strictly necessary for the bike to run, but optimising the fuelling will deliver the best throttle response and performance gains.
What silencer will work with this link pipe?
This kit is designed to work with our range of Max Torque Cans silencers. If you’re unsure which can is compatible, please get in touch and we’ll point you in the right direction based on your specific requirements and preferences.
Is this exhaust road legal?
Please check current UK noise and emissions legislation before fitting any aftermarket exhaust to a road-registered vehicle. It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure their motorcycle complies with current regulations when used on public roads.
Can I see this exhaust fitted to a real SV650?
Absolutely. We have photo albums and video content showing this exhaust fitted to the suzuki sv650 1998-2002 available via our Flickr and YouTube channels. Links are provided on this page — we strongly recommend taking a look before purchasing so you can see exactly what to expect.

Specifically, two changes detailed below:
Road Legal Exhausts: Our road legal exhausts will have the BSAU stamped markings and be crafted with non-removable baffles, aligning seamlessly with the standards set by ACEM (European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers). These baffles are an integral part of our design to ensure that your motorcycle exhaust complies with road regulations, providing you with a legal and enjoyable riding experience.

Clearly marked with type approval markings “Not for Road Use” etched into the side, these exhausts are specifically designed for racing applications.
