The yamaha yzf 1000 r1 4xv-5jj 1998 – 2001 represents a landmark moment in superbike history, and if you’re fortunate enough to own one of these first-generation legends, you’ll know that it deserves only the finest aftermarket components to complement its breathtaking performance and timeless styling. At Max Torque Cans, we’ve engineered a high-quality performance exhaust system specifically for this iconic machine, offering a direct bolt-on upgrade that transforms both the sound and aesthetics of your R1 without compromising the reliability and build quality Yamaha is famous for.
Whether you’re chasing lap times at your local track day, enjoying spirited weekend rides through the countryside, or simply want your bike to look and sound as aggressive as it performs, our exhaust upgrade is the perfect choice for discerning R1 owners across the United Kingdom.
Owners of the yamaha yzf 1000 r1 4xv-5jj 1998 – 2001 consistently tell us the same story—the standard OEM exhaust system, while functional and quiet, simply doesn’t do justice to the legendary 998cc inline-four engine that made this motorcycle a track weapon and a street icon in equal measure. That’s precisely why we developed this precision-engineered link pipe and mounting hardware package, designed to liberate the true voice of your R1’s powerplant whilst improving exhaust gas flow and giving your bike a much cleaner, more purposeful rear-end appearance.
This isn’t a generic, one-size-fits-all solution; it’s a model-specific upgrade built with the unique requirements of the 4XV and 5JJ chassis codes firmly in mind.
What’s Included with Your Yamaha YZF 1000 R1 4XV-5JJ 1998 – 2001 Exhaust System
We believe in providing everything you need in one complete package, with no hidden extras, no surprise additional costs, and no need to hunt around for missing components. Every exhaust system we supply for the yamaha yzf 1000 r1 4xv-5jj 1998 – 2001 arrives ready to install and includes the following precision-manufactured components:
- 1 x Stainless 304 CNC Mandrel Bent Link Pipe — expertly engineered to provide an optimised, restriction-free flow path that maintains exhaust gas velocity and improves throttle response throughout the rev range.
- 1 x Stainless Exhaust Strap — constructed from high-grade stainless steel that resists corrosion and remains secure even under the extreme heat and vibration your R1 generates.
- 1 x Exhaust Strap Rubber — a purpose-designed rubber buffer that sits between the strap and silencer, absorbing vibration and protecting your can’s finish from premature wear and damage.
Every component is carefully inspected by our team before despatch, ensuring you receive a complete, ready-to-fit package for your yamaha yzf 1000 r1 4xv-5jj 1998 – 2001 with absolute confidence. No surprises, no compromises—just quality components that work together perfectly.
Build Quality and Materials for the Yamaha YZF 1000 R1 4XV-5JJ 1998 – 2001 Exhaust
The link pipe supplied with this performance exhaust is manufactured from Grade 304 Stainless Steel, widely recognised as the gold standard material for motorcycle exhaust systems throughout the UK and Europe. This premium alloy offers exceptional resistance to corrosion from road salt, rain, and the harsh conditions British roads throw at your machine throughout the year, ensuring your exhaust maintains its appearance and structural integrity season after season.
Our CNC mandrel bending process is something we take particular pride in. Unlike conventional bending methods that can crush, kink, or restrict the internal diameter of exhaust tubing, mandrel bending maintains a perfectly uniform, circular cross-section throughout every bend and curve. For your yamaha yzf 1000 r1 4xv-5jj 1998 – 2001, this translates directly into a link pipe with zero internal restrictions—exhaust gases flow freely and efficiently, allowing your engine to breathe properly and deliver the performance Yamaha’s engineers intended.
This engineering detail matters more than many riders realise. Restricted exhaust flow creates unwanted back pressure that robs your engine of power, throttle response, and top-end performance. By fitting our mandrel-bent stainless link pipe to your yamaha yzf 1000 r1 4xv-5jj 1998 – 2001, you’re eliminating that restriction and giving your inline-four engine the opportunity to express its full potential, whilst also enjoying a noticeably deeper, more aggressive exhaust note that turns heads wherever you ride.
Fitment Details for the Yamaha YZF 1000 R1 4XV-5JJ 1998 – 2001
This exhaust system is engineered to fit directly onto the standard OEM downpipes of the yamaha yzf 1000 r1 4xv-5jj 1998 – 2001, covering all model years from 1998 through to 2001 without modification. No cutting, welding, fabrication, or permanent alterations to your existing downpipes are required—this is a true bolt-on fitment designed for straightforward home installation.
The link pipe connects seamlessly to the collector section of your stock downpipes and channels exhaust gases rearward to your chosen silencer or can. Because we’ve designed this system specifically for the 4XV and 5JJ chassis codes, you can have complete confidence that the geometry, bracket positions, pipe diameter, and mounting points are all precisely matched to your machine’s specifications.
Before fitting your new performance exhaust to the yamaha yzf 1000 r1 4xv-5jj 1998 – 2001, we strongly recommend following these professional installation tips to ensure a perfect result:
- Allow the engine to cool completely before beginning any exhaust work—hot components can cause serious burns and rounded bolt heads.
- Apply a small amount of copper grease to all threaded connections to prevent seizing and make future removal straightforward.
- Ensure the exhaust strap rubber is correctly seated before torquing down the mounting strap—this protects both the silencer and strap from stress cracking.
- After fitting, run the engine briefly and re-check all connections once the metal has expanded under operating temperature.
- We always recommend fitting a fresh exhaust gasket at the collector junction if your existing gasket shows any signs of wear, compression damage, or blow-by.
If you’re ever uncertain during installation, our experienced team is always happy to provide guidance and technical support. We’d much rather help you get the job done right first time than have you rush through the process and encounter problems later.
