The bmw r1200gs 2004-2012 is one of the most celebrated adventure motorcycles ever built, combining legendary BMW engineering with genuine go-anywhere capability that has earned it a devoted following among riders across the UK and beyond. Whether you’re tackling the twisting back roads of the Scottish Highlands, commuting through London traffic, or embarking on a multi-week European tour, the R1200GS is a machine that thrives on challenge. Yet even the finest motorcycles benefit from carefully chosen upgrades, and if you’re looking to unlock the full character of your GS, a performance exhaust from Max Torque Cans is the perfect place to start. Our purpose-built exhaust system delivers a deeper, more purposeful tone, improved throttle response, and a cleaner, more aggressive look that complements the rugged spirit of this iconic adventure bike.
Why Upgrade Your BMW R1200GS 2004-2012 with a Performance Exhaust?
The factory exhaust on the bmw r1200gs 2004-2012 is a well-engineered component designed to meet strict emissions regulations and keep noise levels within legal limits. However, it’s also heavier and more restrictive than it needs to be, and the sound it produces doesn’t always reflect the true character of that charismatic boxer twin engine. By fitting a high-quality aftermarket exhaust, you’re not just improving the soundtrack of your ride — you’re also reducing weight, enhancing gas flow, and sharpening throttle response. The result is a bike that feels more alive, sounds more purposeful, and looks the part whether parked at a café stop or loaded up for serious adventure touring.
At Max Torque Cans, we’ve designed our bmw r1200gs 2004-2012 exhaust to deliver all these benefits without compromise. Every kit is manufactured in the UK using premium-grade materials, precision CNC mandrel bending, and a geometry that’s been tailored specifically to the R1200GS frame and exhaust routing. We don’t sell generic, one-size-fits-all products — every exhaust we produce is purpose-built for the bike it’s intended for, and the R1200GS is no exception. You can expect a bolt-on installation, a factory-quality finish, and a sound that transforms every journey without being antisocial or drawing unwanted attention from the authorities.
What’s Included in Your BMW R1200GS 2004-2012 Exhaust Kit
When you order a bmw r1200gs 2004-2012 exhaust from Max Torque Cans, you’ll receive a complete kit that includes everything you need for a professional installation. Inside the box, you’ll find one stainless 304 CNC mandrel bent link pipe, precision-formed to match the exact geometry of your bike’s exhaust system. This link pipe is the heart of the kit, and we’ve invested heavily in CNC tooling to ensure that every curve, every angle, and every flange is manufactured to exacting tolerances. Unlike press-bent pipes that can cause internal restrictions and turbulent gas flow, our mandrel-bent design maintains a consistent internal diameter throughout every bend. The result is smoother, faster exhaust gas evacuation, which translates directly into improved throttle response and a more satisfying power delivery across the entire rev range.
Also included is a heavy-duty stainless exhaust strap and exhaust strap rubber, both designed to secure your new exhaust firmly in place while damping vibration and protecting the can from unwanted movement on rough roads. These components might seem minor, but they play a crucial role in ensuring long-term reliability and preventing rattles or fitment issues down the line. All metal components are manufactured from Grade 304 stainless steel, a material trusted in demanding applications from marine engineering to aerospace. It resists corrosion far better than mild steel, handles repeated heat cycles without warping or discolouration, and maintains its polished appearance for years with minimal maintenance. This is the same quality of material that BMW themselves specify for high-performance exhaust applications, and we believe it’s the only sensible choice for a bike as capable and long-lived as the R1200GS.
Fitment and Compatibility for the BMW R1200GS 2004-2012
One of the most common questions we receive is about fitment, and we’re pleased to confirm that this exhaust is designed to bolt directly onto the standard OEM downpipes of any bmw r1200gs 2004-2012 model. That means if your bike left the factory any time between 2004 and 2012, this kit will fit your machine cleanly and confidently with no modifications, no adapters, and no head-scratching required. The link pipe geometry has been carefully matched to the frame and exhaust routing of the R1200GS, ensuring proper clearance around bodywork, luggage mounting points, and the rear suspension components. Whether your GS is a well-travelled adventure workhorse or a cherished weekend rider, this exhaust will look at home and perform flawlessly.
For riders who own other BMW models, we also offer performance exhausts for machines like the BMW R1200RT 2014-2018, the BMW F800R 2009-2019, and the BMW F800GT 2013-2020. Each exhaust is built with the same commitment to quality, fitment precision, and real-world performance that defines everything we do at Max Torque Cans.
Installation Tips for Your BMW R1200GS 2004-2012 Exhaust
Fitting this exhaust to your bmw r1200gs 2004-2012 is a straightforward job that most riders with basic mechanical skills can complete in their own garage using standard tools. Before you begin, make sure the engine and exhaust system have cooled completely — the boxer twin layout of the R1200GS means the headers retain heat for longer than many inline engines, and working on a hot exhaust is both dangerous and uncomfortable. Apply a generous amount of copper grease to all exhaust fixings before installation. This simple step prevents seizing and makes future removal far easier, especially important if you plan to swap exhausts seasonally or perform other maintenance work down the line.
Take your time to check alignment carefully before fully tightening any clamps or bolts. A small adjustment at this stage can make a significant difference to the finished look and ensure long-term durability. Once everything is secure, start the engine briefly and check for any leaks at the link pipe joint before heading out on the road. If you notice any unusual noises or smells, double-check all connections and retighten as necessary. For riders who want to extract maximum performance from their new exhaust, we always recommend consulting a professional dyno tuner for a remap. According to Motorcycle News, a quality remap can optimise fuelling and ignition timing to complement your new exhaust, unlocking additional power and smoothing out throttle response throughout the rev range.

These baffles are an integral part of our design to ensure that your motorcycle exhaust complies with road regulations, providing you with a legal and enjoyable riding experience.
Race Exhausts and Silencers: For those seeking an exhilarating experience on the track, our race exhausts are engineered to deliver optimal performance. Clearly marked with type approval markings “Not for Road Use” etched into the side, these exhausts are specifically designed for racing applications. This distinction is in line with DVSA policy, ensuring that our race exhausts are suitable for track use, meeting the highest performance standards without compromising on safety.
