The kawasaki z650 ninja stainless de-cat system & rear silencer from MTC Exhausts represents the pinnacle of British motorcycle exhaust engineering for the Z650 and Ninja 650 platform. Handcrafted in our Lancashire workshop since 2001, this performance exhaust system is designed to unlock the full potential of Kawasaki’s legendary parallel-twin engine. By removing the restrictive catalytic converter and pairing it with our precision-engineered 320mm rear silencer, this complete system delivers sharper throttle response, enhanced mid-range torque, and a deep, purposeful exhaust note that transforms every ride.
If you’re serious about extracting real-world performance gains from your Z650 or Ninja 650, this is the upgrade that will redefine your riding experience.
At MTC Exhausts, we’ve built our reputation entirely on quality, craftsmanship, and genuine performance improvements. Unlike mass-produced systems imported from overseas factories, every single unit is handmade to order in our Burscough facility using only the highest-grade stainless steel. When you invest in British manufacturing, you’re investing in over two decades of expertise, attention to detail, and a level of care that simply cannot be replicated on a production line.
The result is a performance exhaust that not only looks exceptional but delivers measurable improvements in power delivery and overall engine character.
Why the Kawasaki Z650 Ninja Stainless De-Cat System & Rear Silencer Delivers Exceptional Performance
The de-cat configuration is what separates this system from standard slip-on cans. By eliminating the restrictive catalytic converter from the headers, exhaust gases flow far more efficiently through the entire system. This fundamental change allows your Kawasaki’s parallel-twin engine to breathe properly, resulting in noticeable improvements in mid-range torque and throttle response—exactly where the Z650 and Ninja 650 rider needs it most.
Whether you’re carving through back roads or pushing hard on track days, the difference is immediately apparent from the moment you twist the throttle.
Our signature 320mm rear silencer is precision-engineered to complement the de-cat headers perfectly. The combination creates a beautifully balanced system that sounds every bit as impressive as it performs. We construct every component using Grade T304 and T409 stainless steel—materials specifically chosen for their outstanding heat resistance, corrosion protection, and long-term durability.
All joints are sealed with stainless gas-tight rivets, ensuring absolutely no leaks and no annoying rattles over time. This isn’t a performance can built to last a season or two; it’s engineered to outlive your motorcycle ownership.
According to Kawasaki UK, the Z650 and Ninja 650 platform benefits significantly from reduced exhaust back-pressure, and our system has been specifically designed with the engine’s characteristics in mind. The result is a transformation that enhances the bike’s natural character rather than fighting against it.

Fitment Guide and Installation Tips for the Kawasaki Z650 Ninja Stainless De-Cat System & Rear Silencer
This performance system is a direct-fit upgrade designed specifically for both the Kawasaki Z650 and Ninja 650. The headers are precision-formed to match OEM exit points exactly, making the fitment process straightforward for any competent home mechanic or motorcycle workshop. Both the naked Z650 and the fully-faired Ninja 650 are accommodated within this single design—if you have any concerns about compatibility with your specific model year, please contact us directly before ordering and we’ll confirm fitment immediately.
We always recommend professional fitting if you’re uncertain about the process. Here are essential installation tips to keep in mind:
- Allow the engine to cool completely before beginning any exhaust work—never attempt installation on a hot motorcycle
- Apply copper exhaust paste to all joining points to ensure gas-tight seals and prevent clamp seizing over time
- Torque all fixings to manufacturer’s specifications—avoid over-tightening as stainless steel threads can strip if forced
- Check all joints after the first start-up and re-tighten as necessary once the metal has fully expanded with heat
- Consider an ECU remap or Power Commander tune following installation to fully optimise fuelling for the de-cat configuration and maximise performance gains across the entire rev range
We’ve produced dedicated YouTube fitting videos covering this specific installation, and you can browse over 10,500 real customer build pictures on our Flickr gallery—giving you total confidence in exactly what you’ll receive and how the system looks once fitted.
Does the System Require an ECU Remap?
Whilst your Z650 or Ninja 650 will run without one, we strongly recommend an ECU remap or equivalent fuelling solution after fitting the kawasaki z650 ninja stainless de-cat system & rear silencer. The de-cat configuration significantly alters exhaust gas flow characteristics, and a properly calibrated fuelling map ensures smooth, linear power delivery across the entire rev range.
Without remapping, you may experience slight fuelling irregularities in certain throttle positions. A professional dyno session will transform an already impressive upgrade into something truly exceptional, unlocking the full potential of the system.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this system make my bike significantly louder?
Yes—the de-cat headers combined with our 320mm rear silencer produce a noticeably more purposeful and aggressive tone compared to the standard OEM setup. It’s characterful and rewarding without being antisocially loud. Most riders describe the note as deep, throaty, and entirely fitting for a performance-oriented parallel-twin engine.
Is this system road legal in the UK?
The de-cat configuration removes the catalytic converter, which may affect road legality depending on current UK emissions legislation and MOT requirements. We recommend checking relevant regulations and consulting your insurer before using on public roads. The system is equally well-suited to track use, where it genuinely excels.
Does this fit both Z650 and Ninja 650 models?
Yes—the system is designed to fit both the naked Z650 and faired Ninja 650 variants. Contact us with your specific model year if you need confirmation before ordering, and our team will advise without any fuss.
How long will delivery take?
As every product is handmade to order in Lancashire, please allow for our standard production lead time. Our team provides friendly, transparent communication throughout—you’re never left wondering about your order status.
