The honda cbr600 fm-fw 1991-1998 performance exhaust from Max Torque Cans represents the perfect fusion of precision engineering, quality British manufacturing, and genuine motorcycle passion. Built specifically for one of Honda’s most iconic supersport platforms, this exhaust system delivers tangible improvements in sound, weight, and aesthetics while maintaining the straightforward bolt-on simplicity that riders demand.
Whether you’re restoring a cherished 90s classic, preparing for track days at Brands Hatch, or simply wanting to give your CBR600 the growl it deserves, this is the upgrade that transforms your riding experience without breaking the bank or requiring specialist fabrication skills.
The CBR600 FM through FW series, covering the 1991 to 1998 model years, holds a special place in motorcycling history. These bikes offered razor-sharp handling, a screaming inline-four engine that loved to rev, and that unmistakable 90s supersport character that still turns heads today. Fitting a quality aftermarket exhaust is one of the most satisfying modifications you can make to these machines — instantly shedding kilos of excess weight, liberating a richer, more purposeful exhaust note, and giving the entire bike a cleaner, more focused appearance.
At Max Torque Cans, we’ve engineered this system around the specific OEM downpipe configuration of the CBR600 FM-FW models, ensuring a precise fit rather than a compromise generic solution.
What’s Included with Your Honda CBR600 FM-FW 1991-1998 Performance Exhaust Kit
Every kit arrives complete with everything you need for a straightforward installation. When you order the honda cbr600 fm-fw 1991-1998 exhaust from Max Torque Cans, your package includes:
- 1 x Stainless 304 CNC Mandrel Bent Link Pipe — precision-formed using mandrel bending techniques to maintain smooth, consistent internal bore dimensions throughout every curve, eliminating flow restrictions that can rob performance and throttle response.
- 1 x Stainless Exhaust Strap — a robust, heat and corrosion-resistant mounting bracket engineered to keep your silencer secure under hard acceleration, heavy braking, and the thermal cycling of spirited riding.
- 1 x Exhaust Strap Rubber — a protective rubber buffer that cushions the silencer mount, reduces vibration transfer to the frame, and helps preserve your exhaust’s finish over thousands of miles.
The link pipe is manufactured from grade 304 stainless steel, a material choice that offers outstanding resistance to heat, corrosion, and the relentless punishment of year-round British weather. The CNC mandrel bending process is critical here — unlike crush-bent alternatives, mandrel bending maintains perfectly consistent internal diameter throughout every bend, ensuring optimal exhaust gas velocity and eliminating the hidden restrictions that can stifle performance gains. This attention to detail is what separates a quality British-made exhaust from budget imports.
Fitment Guide for the Honda CBR600 FM-FW 1991-1998 Exhaust System
This exhaust system is engineered to mate directly with the standard OEM downpipes of the honda cbr600 fm-fw 1991-1998 without any modification, cutting, welding, or specialist fabrication. If your CBR600 retains the original factory downpipes in serviceable condition, this link pipe will slide straight into place and clamp up cleanly with basic hand tools.
Before installation, we strongly recommend inspecting your OEM downpipes for any corrosion, damage, or deformation around the collector outlet — particularly on bikes that have endured multiple UK winters with their road salt and damp conditions. A clean, undamaged mating surface ensures the best possible seal and prevents annoying exhaust ticks or leaks once the engine reaches operating temperature. A light application of copper grease on the joint is always good practice and makes future removal significantly easier.
The included exhaust strap and rubber cushion are essential for securing the silencer end of your setup. Take care to position the strap rubber correctly before final tightening — this cushion prevents metal-to-metal contact and eliminates rattles on rough road surfaces or over speed bumps.
Installation Tips Specific to the Honda CBR600 FM-FW 1991-1998
Fitting aftermarket exhausts to the honda cbr600 fm-fw 1991-1998 is a job that most mechanically competent riders can accomplish at home with basic tools. Here are practical pointers to ensure a smooth installation:
- Always work on a cold engine. Attempting to remove exhaust components while hot creates a serious burn risk and can make bolts feel tighter than they actually are.
- Soak original bolts and fasteners with penetrating oil the night before if your bike has been used through wet seasons — older CBR600s can have stubbornly seized fasteners around the downpipe area.
- Hand-tighten all fixings first before applying final torque. This allows the link pipe to settle naturally into position before anything is locked down permanently.
- Check clearances carefully around the rear sets, pillion peg hangers, and bodywork — particularly if your CBR600 FM-FW is fitted with non-standard fairings or accessories.
- Run the bike and check for leaks at the joint after the first heat cycle. It’s normal for a new exhaust to smoke slightly during initial run-in as manufacturing compounds burn off.
If you’re planning to fit a specific aftermarket silencer or can alongside this link pipe, please verify that the outlet diameter and mounting arrangement are compatible before ordering. Our knowledgeable team at Max Torque Cans are always happy to advise — simply get in touch with your requirements.

To Make sure that you are shopping for the correct Model exhaust here is some information about this model.
The CBR600F2 was made from 1991 to 1994. It was introduced to replace the original CBR600F Hurricane and was considered one of Honda’s most modern and innovative sport bikes. Development of the CBR600F2 began in early 1989. Hurricane LPL Ishikawa led the development of the new bike, known internally as MV9 but also called the F2, an alphanumeric that led to its official name: CBR600F2.
The F2’s development began with meetings to discuss concepts and sketches for the new bike. A few months later, an F2 prototype was produced. Painted black, the bike looked faster and sleeker than the more blocky first generation bike and test results were superior: few motorcycles in the 1990s had the performance ability of the F2
The CBR600F3 is the third generation of the CBR600F series. It replaced the F2, and was produced from 1995 to 1998. It had a modified engine, ram-air intake and cartridge forks. The 1997 and 1998 models also came with a deeper oil pan, sleeker tail fairings, seat and taillight, and a revised engine head netting about a 3.7 kW (5 hp; 5 PS) gain over 1995–1996 models. The CDI and ram-air system were also revised to allowed for smoother throttle curve over the 1995–1996 models, which could sometimes be jerky. The last made 1998 models came with another revised engine head which resulted in a slight power gain. In 1999, it was replaced by the CBR600F4.
In 1996 and 1998, the F3 was also sold in “Smokin’ Joe’s Replica” versions in the US, Canada and Australia (1998 only).
Cycle World tested the F3’s acceleration from 0–97 km/h (60 mph) at 3 seconds and 0–402 m (1⁄4 mi) at 10.9 seconds at 201.62 km/h (125.28 mph). Motorcycle Consumer News recorded a 0–97 km/h (60 mph) time of 3.7 seconds and a quarter mile time of 11.03 seconds at 199.66 km/h (124.06 mph).
