The ducati 916-748 1994-1999 is widely regarded as one of the most iconic and visually stunning motorcycles ever to emerge from the Ducati factory in Bologna, and if you’re fortunate enough to own one of these Italian masterpieces, you’ll already understand why it commands such respect among enthusiasts worldwide. At Max Torque Cans, we’ve engineered a premium performance exhaust link pipe kit specifically for the ducati 916-748 1994-1999, designed to unlock the full potential of that legendary L-Twin engine whilst enhancing the already-captivating exhaust note.
Whether you’re restoring a cherished classic to concours condition or building a focused track weapon, this is the upgrade that will transform your ride and deliver the performance gains your bike deserves.
Why Upgrade the Exhaust on Your Ducati 916-748 1994-1999?
The ducati 916-748 1994-1999 was already a legend straight from the factory. Massimo Tamburini’s design masterpiece turned heads everywhere it went and dominated World Superbike racing throughout the mid-to-late nineties, cementing its place in motorcycling history. However, the standard OEM exhaust setup, whilst functional and compliant with noise regulations, was never truly designed with outright performance or that spine-tingling Italian soundtrack in mind.
Replacing the link pipes with our precision-engineered stainless steel components is one of the most effective and immediately satisfying upgrades you can make to any ducati 916-748 1994-1999. You’ll notice the difference straight away in throttle response, exhaust note depth, and overall rideability across the rev range.
Our link pipe kit is crafted from premium-grade Stainless 304 steel, which offers excellent corrosion resistance, long-term durability, and a beautifully clean polished finish that does justice to the stunning lines of these iconic Italian superbikes. This isn’t a budget bolt-on part — it’s a quality-built component designed to last as long as the bike itself and withstand the heat, vibration, and stresses of hard riding on both road and track.
What’s Included with the Ducati 916-748 1994-1999 Link Pipe Kit?
We believe in providing everything you need to complete the installation properly, right out of the box. Each ducati 916-748 1994-1999 kit includes the following high-quality components:
- 2 x Stainless 304 CNC Mandrel Bent Link Pipes — precision-formed for optimal exhaust gas flow and a perfect OEM fitment
- 2 x Stainless Exhaust Straps — heavy-duty construction built to withstand the heat and vibration of spirited riding
- 2 x Exhaust Strap Rubbers — protective rubbers to reduce vibration transfer and protect your frame from wear
Every component in this kit has been carefully selected to work together seamlessly, ensuring that your ducati 916-748 1994-1999 performs exactly as it should. The CNC mandrel bending process is critical here — it ensures that the internal bore of each pipe maintains a consistent diameter throughout every bend, eliminating the restrictions and turbulence that commonly occur with cheaper crush-bent alternatives.
The result is significantly improved exhaust gas scavenging, better mid-range torque delivery, and a more responsive throttle across the entire rev range. According to Cycle World, proper exhaust design and flow characteristics are fundamental to extracting maximum performance from any high-performance motorcycle engine, and the L-Twin configuration of the 916 and 748 particularly benefits from unrestricted flow.
Fitment for the Ducati 916-748 1994-1999 — Straight to Standard OEM Downpipes
One of the biggest advantages of this link pipe kit is just how straightforward the fitment process is. This exhaust system is designed to bolt straight on to your standard OEM downpipes — no modifications, no cutting, no fabrication headaches whatsoever. If you’re fitting this to a ducati 916-748 1994-1999 that still runs its original downpipes, you’re good to go.
Simply remove the old link pipes, slide in the new stainless steel items, fit the straps and rubbers, and you’re done. The entire installation process is well within the capabilities of any competent home mechanic with basic hand tools, and can typically be completed in under an hour.
For those fitting aftermarket silencers at the same time, the link pipes are designed to work with a wide range of popular silencer options available on the market. If you’re unsure about compatibility with your chosen cans, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our experienced team — we’re always happy to advise on fitment and configuration.
We always recommend allowing the exhaust to fully cool down before making any final tightening adjustments after the first heat cycle. This allows the metal to expand and contract naturally, ensuring a rattle-free, secure fit for the long term.
The Sound and Performance of the Ducati 916-748 1994-1999 Upgrade
There’s a very good reason the ducati 916-748 1994-1999 became so famous and revered — that distinctive L-Twin engine has one of the most addictive and characterful soundtracks in all of motorcycling. A quality set of link pipes paired with a well-matched performance can will free up that iconic sound and let the engine breathe far more freely than the restrictive standard setup ever allowed.
You can expect a deeper, more characterful exhaust note, improved mid-range grunt where the L-Twin really shines, and a more linear power delivery that makes the absolute most of the engine’s natural torque characteristics.
Many owners of the ducati 916-748 1994-1999 also report that upgrading the link pipes makes a noticeable difference to how the bike responds at lower rpm, where the standard exhaust setup can feel slightly lazy and muted. Free up the flow, and the engine feels altogether more alive, more responsive, and more eager to rev — exactly as Ducati originally intended.
The improved scavenging effect also helps reduce back pressure, which can contribute to slightly lower running temperatures and improved overall engine efficiency.
Frequently Asked Questions About This Ducati 916-748 1994-1999 Exhaust Kit
Will this kit fit all variants of the 916 and 748?
This kit is designed specifically for the ducati 916-748 1994-1999 range, covering both the 748 and 916 models throughout that production period, including the 748 Monoposto, 748 Biposto, 916 Monoposto, 916 Biposto, 916 SP, and 916 SPS variants. If you have any doubt about your specific variant or model year, please contact us before ordering and we’ll confirm compatibility.
Do I need to remap or rejet after fitting?
If you are retaining your standard silencers and simply replacing the link pipes, a remap is typically not required. However, if you are fitting aftermarket silencers at the same time and removing the catalytic converter (where fitted), a remap or carburettor rejet is strongly advisable for optimal performance and to ensure correct fuelling on the ducati 916-748 1994-1999.
What grade of stainless steel is used?
All link pipes in this kit are manufactured from Stainless 304, a high-quality austenitic stainless steel that offers excellent heat resistance, superior corrosion resistance, and exceptional longevity — ideal for the demanding environment of a performance exhaust system on a ducati 916-748 1994-1999.
Is any welding required during installation?
No welding is required whatsoever. This is a slip-fit kit that connects directly to your existing OEM downpipes using the supplied straps and rubbers. It’s a clean, reversible installation that won’t affect the originality of your bike if you ever decide to return it to standard specification.
